Educational Blog Experience
Throughout this semester, I have learned some interesting things about technology and education. During my wonderful learning experience, I suscribed to five blogs. All five blogs have provided me with some great information to use in the classroom. I do not have my own classroom this year, but I chose blogs that gave me an unlimited source of tools to someday use in the classroom.
The first blog I chose is "all 4 my child" http://all4mychild.com/blog/. This blog is all about children and their well being. I enjoyed the post on March 30, 2012 called From the Ocean Floor to the Classroom Door. This posts shares different methods to manage anger. Students can use those methods to deal with issues at school or at home when they get angry.
The next blog is High Expectations/ Ideas and Resources for Educators http://elemenous.typepad.com/weblog/. This blog has links to many resources for educators. There are so many great things in this blog, I could not decide which post to discuss. I chose a site that discusses the use of the kindlefire in the classroom. Here is a link to the site: http://tabletcrunch.com/2012/04/11/kindle-fire-tablets-being-tested-in-3-tennessee-public-schools/.
Three schools in Tennessee are testing the kindlefire in the classroom. Through this trial and error process, the students are learning with a new passion for learning.
The third blog I chose is Technology with Intention http://www.techwithintent.com/. My favorite post is Jux: simple media literacy tool. This tool can assist children with writing skills such as storytelling. Students can add images and photos in an easy and simple way.
The fourth blog is Free Technology for Teachers http://www.freetech4teachers.com/. The post I chose is Visualizing Ocean Currents in Google Earth. I chose this post because I love to learn about the beautiful world that we live in. Google Earth is a wonderful tool that can take children to places they may never have an opportunity to see. This post has a video that actually shows the pattern of ocean currents. I think it is something that would be exciting for kids and would also open the door to many questions and class discussions.
The last blog I subscribed to is LARRY FERLAZZO'S WEBSITES OF THE DAY... http://larryferlazzo.edublogs.org/. My favorite post was the website called Seven Tips for Building Positive Relationships with English Language Learners. ELL students are at a disadvantage because they are trying to speak English fluently. Teachers need resources to assist them in helping students to feel comfortable about learning. Here is a link to the site http://www.edutopia.org/blog/building-positive-relationships-ELL-larry-ferlazzo-katie-hull-sypnieski.

Piaget and Vygotsky
Piaget and Vygotsky are two theorists who had terrific views on children and education. Vygotsky believed that children learned from the atmosphere around them. He also believed that children can learn if teachers know their zone of proximal development. Piaget believed that children go through four stages of cognitive development. I must say that Vygotsky and Piaget were right on the mark. Children learn from what they see and what is introduced to them. As teachers, we have to find different methods to educate children. Vygotsky does not discuss the stages of devlopment as Piaget, but they both believed in the education of children.
